Where do you see bitcoin in a year from now? 5?
How long did it take to develop the first avalon prototype?
How many avalon miners have shipped to date?
What got YOU into bitcoin?

I'm going on Al Jazeera English tomorrow as a "bitcoin enthusiast." Any non-obvious talking points you want me to consider?

I'm going to be a panelist on Al Jazeera English's show "The Stream" on Tuesday, January 14th. AJE is different from Al Jazeera America in that it's not available in the US but is available to watch online at http://stream.aljazeera.com/ (but only if you're using a VPN or other IP masking technology in the US). I believe the broadcast is from 11:15 AM-12:15 AM PT, with the 11:30-12:00 portion being on TV as well (they've got love in London, so I hear).
Think this may be The Stream's first bitcoin show so help me help them get it right. Thanks!

$14,000,000.00+ in Avalon chips missing, and you thought BFL was bad?

Avalon is currently over a month late in shipping over $14 Million dollars in Avalon asic chips to group buys on Bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=264098.0
This could quite possibly be the biggest Bitcoin theft in History.
If anyone can contact Yifu Guo of Avalon for chip status/confirmation that they will ship, please do. They have ignored all contact emails and phone calls for over a month.

Show me a person who knows as much or more than me about Bitcoin, and profusely thinks it's not going anywhere.

Posting this question has been on my todo list and I had the same investor emotion that so many people have to deal with, I didn't want to post it because I might find out bad news!! Well, it's something any investor of any kind should do. Find out if there are any threats.
For people to properly answer this they need to know what I know and how well I know it. Because the arguments against will be comeing from different knowledge sets, I want the arguments against to know what I know plus all their extra info. Admittingly, this is only 6 months of studying so it shouldn't be too hard for you veterans.
Base knowledge: Hummm jeeesus christ this is an impractical......Fuck...Base knowledge, specific knowledge, investor knowledge, socioeconomics, internet, programming.....what was I thinking....hummm knowledge of human history...gold mining history and Gold industry finances, and characteristics of money. Ok, change of mind, not going to explain anything.
Who the fuck knows everything about Bitcoin and still has good arguments against it? That's better.
Literally, you know everything about Bitcoin. You've hung out with Gavin Anderson in person and might have been in the same room with Satoshi Nakamoto cause you were at Bitcoin 2011; or 10 if there was one. You have read the open source Bitcoin code on GitHub and remember every line like it was the first time you had sex. You understand that shit like Lawnmower man. You know that RSA encryption was first discovered by the military around World War 2's end then independently rediscovered by 3 math scientists in 1977(straight off of Khan academy). You laugh at people who think they understand and are comfortable with this shit cause they finally grasped RSA encryption. You have obviously mined and sometimes get your 6 year old kid to do prime factorizations. SHA 256 is your bitch and when the US recently(2days ago?) publicly said NSA has super decryption ability and backdoor access to your bum; you didn't flinch. No really, you were one of the few that didn't even question the fact that they would need 100 years with all the worlds computers to crack one address. You never phoned one of your more experienced electrical engineering genius friends to confirm certain aspects. You get the point.
In my opinion the only remaining hurdle is brick and mortar adoption and that seems to be happening at an increasing pace, as long as that pace continues or increases, I don't foresee Bitcoin failing to replace a significant portion of our planets' current forms of money or all of them :). I track this progess by literally watching how many places are on coinmap.org (and other maps out there). If all business on the planet accept Bitcoin, that map will continue growing. I make some assumptions of events that still need to happen, but believe they will happen as a consequence of brick and mortar adoption.
Begin!
(If you want quality answers, upvote this thread!)
EDIT: If you don't feel like getting harassed by all the zealots please pm me your opinions. I would love to learn about them.

Concern Grows Over Possible Avalon ASICS Scam

Concern Grows Over Possible Avalon ASICS Scam submitted by btcbible to Bitcoin [link] [comments]

If you found out your $20 bill was used in criminal manner would you stop using it?

If you just found out (you did not know before) your $20 bill was used in criminal manner would you stop using it? Now what if everyone knew that about your $20, would you accept that $20?
Now let’s say you saw a crime and someone got $20 and came up to you and wanted to buy something from you, would you take that $20?
Also would it matter what type of crime the $20 was involved in. Let’s say it was stolen and you got it, and then later you knew who it was stolen from, would you give it back? Not let’s say the money was earned legitimately then used to buy drugs. Then the drug dealer bought something from you, then you found out it was bad money. Then would you keep that $20?
Now let’s say a bad guy takes $20 but is caught by the local authorities and that $20 is given back. Would you use that $20? (I'm sure you would)
Now replace that $20 with some amount of Bitcoins, would your answers be the same? If we found out that are coins where tainted could we cleanse them?
All of these things have been asked before and there are ways we handle this today. But I thought this might be a good topic regarding Yifu & Clean Addresses.

BITCOIN 2013 SAN JOSE - 61 Videos (17 playlists)!

Hello fellow Bitcoiners! It's taken me over a week of effort, but I've finally completed uploading all 61 of my 'Bitcoin 2013 San Jose' conference amateur videos and organizing them into 17 playlists for easy viewing. Feel free to do whatever you want with these. Special thanks to the Bitcoin Foundation who organized the conference (fyi, I'm not associated with them), and the many outstanding lecturers - I was definitely impressed. I personally got a lot out of the conference, especially the networking with everyone, and getting to see the 'face' of Bitcoin, which might be quite different than one might imagine from only reading reddit or hanging out on IRC. I strongly recommend attending these events in the future if you can. Below I've provided a list of the 17 playlists, but please note that there were many more lectures that I could not attend occurring in parallel to these and thus I could not record those. As such, keep an eye out for the Bitcoin Foundation to release official videos to all the lectures in the near future, until then, enjoy these!
If you got something out of these, please drop me a small tip, thanks:
My Youtube channel stats thus far: 61 videos, 13,780 views ; 52,014 minutes (36 man-days!) watched, 92 subscribers (thanks!), aprox 0.5 BTC of donations (double thanks!), Top country watchers USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Spain, Finland. Gender (93.7% male, 6.3% female); Devices: 80.1% web browser, 11.4% Mobiles, 8.5% other. Most watched videos: Winklevoss twins (sigh), Entering the Convention, and Avalon Asics (what a surprise! /not).
Full Bitcoin 2013 Schedule (3 pages), so you can see missing lectures I could not record: http://www.bitcoin2013.com/uploads/1/4/9/4/14946598/bitcoin_2013_schedule_updated_5-10-13.pdf
Other:All videos were recorded on a Canon Powershot Elph 110HS 16.1 Mpixel compact camera w/ 2x 32GB SD memory + 2x batteries & tiny tripod.

What if the banks decide, about Bitcoin: if you can't beat 'em, join em?

They have all of this enormous power and money. What if they decided to build giant server farms to mine Bitcoins and become the largest, controlling source of new Bitcoins?

Too little, too late, still fun.

So I ordered a Klondike 16 through Steamboat's group buy (Tail end of Batch 4 for a time frame) with the 3.8 or so BTC I made from mining since February. It showed up two weeks ago when I was away at school, and I just had the opportunity to plug it in tonight and get it working.
Mathematically it's not worth running. But I know there's a guy named Steve down in Florida that had an idea and followed through with it. Yifu blew the whole thing, and it was delayed by months, but it's so cool to see what this community can do. It's polished, it's professional, and it's sitting on my desk alongside my 9 Block Eruptors hashing away at 4.5 GH/s.
It's never going to net me money (I could have those 4 BTC still if I hadn't been so greedy... damnit), but I feel like it's a neat part of the history of Bitcoin mining, and I'll probably run it until it stops working. Doing my part to secure the network and staring at the blinking lights to pass the time.

Hardening Bitcoin

Reading [this article!] http://www.reddit.com/Bitcoin/comments/1qmude/yifu_guo_is_conspiring_to_make_his_own_coins/ got me wondering if it is possible to create a mirror coin. A mirror coin, as the name implies) could simply track total bitcoins one for one and allow owners of bitcoin to acquire mirror coins equal to their validated bitcoins. This could be one line of defense to preserving the bitcoin capital created if the bitcoin protocol is ever compromised with validation and/or colored coins.
Your feedback is appreciated.

Wednesday Weekly Meet Up - 7:00pm

Hello guys, Yifu here.
Little background: I got involved with Meshnet related stuff at OWS, helped out Issac in the construction of the Freedom Tower Mark II.
Now that my other project is close to being finished, I'd like to start on my next one which is the Meshnet.
I've been hosting weekly meet ups about Bitcoins for the last year or so, now I'll be extending the invitiation to Meshnet enthusiasts as well. on a side note, one of the exciting possibility is to integrate bitcoin into the Meshnet such that when you provide bandwidth, bitcoin trickle into your wallet, and when you leech bandwidth, bitcoin trickle out.
My current goal is to create a budged hardware/software combo package so others can also get started on this learning journey with me. I'll be having some hardware at this meet up, as will be putting openwrt, olscjdns/batman on it. If you like some hands on, feel free to show up.
Here's the directions: http://bitcoinnavigator.com/2011/08/just-sweet/
Cheers!
